The following is information depicts general climate trends for the park. Remember that weather can change daily so visitors should always prepare for more severe weather than they expect to encounter. Overall, winds tend to be stronger on the exposed headlands and outer beaches than on the protected areas east of Inverness Ridge. The peninsula typically has warm, dry summers and cool, rainy winters.
Summer: Dense morning fog followed by warm, sunny afternoons with light breezes are characteristic of summer around Bear Valley and Tomales Bay. However, headlands and exposed beaches can stay foggy all day and are about 20 degrees F cooler than the east side.
Fall: Some of the clearest days of the year occur during Autumn, but by the end of October the first winter storms will begin arriving, bringing clouds, wind and rain to the area.
Winter: Winter is the stormiest season at Point Reyes, with more rain east of Inverness Ridge than on the coast. Weather between storms can be peaceful, bright, and cool.
Spring: Spring at Point Reyes is quite windy, even within Bear Valley and Tomales Bay, but the temperatures warm up by May or June.
